Ann-a-one, Ann-a-two …

OK. So you have to be of a certain age to be wildly amused by that introduction, but then again “a certain age” comes in to play today in general. Now firmly ensconced in the MILF category, Julia Ann and Lisa Ann also serve as particularly fetching illustrative additions, even though we recognize that their enthusiastic interchange will never accomplish procreation.

We do realize that, all in all, Mother’s Day may seem like an odd time to be celebrating adult movies, considering almost no one really likes to think about mom and dad actually doing those adult movie activities. Still, most of us would probably be surprised (and, granted, perhaps a bit mortified) to learn that a great deal of sexual activity actually involves some sort of “adult enhancement” — whether in the visual or battery-operated form. And without overstating the obvious, your mom wouldn’t be celebrating this day at all were it not for some dude being of the “IFL” state of mind at some point in the past.

Yet the term “MILF” takes on a rather atypical meaning in our business. We did an interview with an aspiring (young) star one day, and she opined that the term refers to “you know, one of those really old women … like 28 or 30.” … (Yeah, what’re you gonna do?)

Technically, of course, the term means Mother I’d Like to Fondle (or something close to that, y’know) — the operative word in there seeming to rely on maternity rather than age. Having now done a completely unscientific study of our own with people actually acting in these MILF movies, it becomes apparent that the vast majority of the women starring in them have not in fact given birth. To add an even more ironic basis to our reality, a significant percentage of the younger women in the industry do have children these days. Weird, right?

Of course the adult industry has been nothing if not practical over the years, so naturally it latched onto the MILF genre quickly. Once they found a way to utilize all those stars that no longer look like they could be college sorority members (to be kind about it), production companies across the country undoubtedly had private parties. You need a good “term” to market effectively, you see, and MILF fit the bill perfectly. If they come up with something clever to mean “woman no longer relishing the novelty of her ability to drink in bars legally, but not really old enough to qualify as looking for lovers decades her junior” the manufacturers will throw some more parties. So we admire the MILF cleverness, if not its inherent accuracy, as it applies to our professional endeavors.

On the upside, MILF probably works better than what we’d derive working with Woman I’d Make Pregnant as a more technically accurate assessment.
